A Few Birthday Lessons
and a quick story...
2 minute read
What’s inside today:
• A birthday lesson from my son that stopped me in my tracks
• A few incredible friends and businesses I’d love for you to support
• What I’m currently enjoying for myself this birthday
I was driving my son and his buddy home from something the other day when his friend, who is just the sweetest kid, said, “My dad told me that people care what other people think until they are 30, and then at 30 they stop caring. At 60, they realize no one was thinking about them at all.”
I corrected him and said, “I love that sentiment. I’ve heard it’s 40 when people stop caring what others think.”
Then my son quickly chimed in and said, “It’s 40 for some people I know.”
OUCH.
How wise he is.
Now that I’ve hit my late 40s, I recognize that maybe it’s not that I don’t care what people think. Or maybe I just care less about being included in things. But I do care deeply about the people who are important to me.
I forgot to wish a close friend a Happy Mother’s Day. Not a huge deal, but she had sent me a text and I completely missed it. Did I care what she thought? Yes. Because she means the world to me, and I want to show up and be present for the people in my life who truly matter to me.
Maybe that’s where the distinction lies.
Another lesson I’ve learned over the last couple of years: celebrations don’t have to include a big meal. They can be a tennis game with friends, a sound bath (my choice of celebration this year), a walk, or even just a coffee.
So today, on my birthday, my wish is simple: to love and be loved. To let others make their own mistakes and not try to manipulate or control what they do or how they do it. I am only in control of my own actions.
Birthday Love
For my birthday, I would love to shine a light on friends who are doing incredible things and ask, as my gift, that you follow them and support them on their journeys.
My friend Amanda has one of the top-ranked parenting Substacks!! She’s only been at it for a short time, which makes it even more impressive. Follow along for her Type-A Mom tips.
My friend Rickie just launched her column for Air Mail today. I am SO impressed with her and highly recommend that you subscribe. I had to walk my dad through how to subscribe. If he can do it, you can do it - you just have to click on the subscribe button on the top right!
I met some new friends a couple of weeks ago, Jessie and Jessica, who have a brilliant little business! I bought the best vintage Levi’s from them and the cutest polo shirts. Check out their website and all of their amazing finds. All my finds from them pictured below:
Which brings me to what I am loving on my birthday:
The folks at True Botanials were kind enough to send me their new lip oil. It is AMAZING! I will be ordering more asap. I am obsessed with their products. Did you know their retinol alternative cream is made from upcycled cranberies? AND it works so well!!
I talked about this on Dr Organic Mommy but in case you missed it - my new EDN tee shirts. Organic, plasitc free and so comfy. True to size!
I am obsessed with my Colby pants from La Ligne. I have talked about them before but now I am debating what color to get next….
That’s it for today! Hope you have a great day!

Happy Birthday Emily! I’m SO grateful you were born and in my life. Love you! lol at Sam’s comment 🤣🤣
Happy birthday to the most amazing friend, mom, wife, and cheerleader!!! Love you!!🎉🎉
